Sit back, relax and enjoy some of the finest scenery in the world on one of Tranz Scenic’s passenger trains. Travel through areas you would never reach by road, in the comfort of a spacious carriage with panoramic windows and a team of friendly staff who will point out the scenic highlights and provide background information about the areas travelled through.
All trains have a buffet carriage with bar facilities and the TranzAlpine also has a special viewing carriage. DVD players and movies are available for hire on the Overlander and TranzCoastal.

Operates in the South Island between Picton and Christchurch. This scenic journey travels along the rugged Pacific Ocean coastline passing through the wine district of Blenheim in Marborough and the township of Kaikoura, where you can break your journey to take in the incredible dolphin and whale watching.
The train operates in the summer season from October through until April

Christchurch – Kaikoura – Picton Departs Christchurch at 7.00 am; arrives Kaikoura at 9.50 am; arrives Picton at 12.40 pm. Departs Picton at 1.40 pm; arrives Kaikoura at 4.15 pm; arrives Christchurch at 7.30 pm.
These services connect with the Interislander Ferry between Picton and Wellington.
Kaitaki departs Wellington at 09.00am – arrives Picton at 12.10pm Kaitaki departs Picton at 2.15pm – arrives Wellngton at 5.45p
Operates through the heart of the North Island between Auckland and Wellington. Along the way you pass the central North Island ski towns of National Park and Ohakune. You also have fantastic views of farm land, lush forest, the volcanic plateau, stunning river gorges and many picturesque towns.
The train operates a 2 day timetable: departs Auckland on Monday, Thursday & Saturday; departs Wellington on Wednesday, Friday & Sunday

This award winning service is rated as one of the world’s greatest train journeys. It operates between Christchurch on the east coast and Greymouth on the west coast of the South Island and travels across the farmland of the Canterbury Plains, through the spectacular gorges and river valleys of the Waimakariri River before climbing into the Southern Alps and stopping at Arthur’s Pass. The train then descends through lush beech rain forest to the West Coast town of Greymouth.
Day return travel is possible: Christchurch-Greymouth-Christchurch or Christchurch-Arthurs’ Pass-Christchurch
